Listeriosis, 2016
Eight listeriosis cases were reported during 2016. All were hospitalized, and 1 died. The median age of cases was 67 years (range, 51 to 90 years). Seven had Listeria monocytogenes isolates from blood and 1 from a knee aspirate. No pregnancy-associated cases were identified. The 8 cases are similar to the median number of cases reported from 1996 through 2015 (median, 7 cases; range, 3 to 19). The overall case fatality rate for listeriosis in Minnesota from 1998 through 2016 was 18%. In 2016, 1 case was part of a multi-state outbreak of 8 cases in seven states likely associated with commercially distributed hummus produced at a Virginia facility.
