Surgeries and Procedures During COVID-19
Hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and clinics, including dental, veterinary, mobile, and other facilities performing surgeries and procedures, are encouraged to consider the following guidance to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to preserve resources needed to care for patients with COVID-19.
In addition, health care facilities must continue to follow all applicable federal and state regulatory standards, some of which may address measures to prevent infection.
General guidance regarding infection prevention and control (IPC) in health care settings is available from CDC at Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic.
For recommendations specific to pre-procedure and presurgical testing of asymptomatic individuals, review the following guidance from The Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA): Asymptomatic screening for severe acute respiratory coronavirus virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) as an infection prevention measure in healthcare facilities: Challenges and considerations.
