IMPLICIT Grant Program

Collage of babies and toddlers during a well child check

During well-child checks, clinics screen, coach, and refer moms to services to ensure they have what they need to be healthy through the IMPLICIT (Interventions to Minimize Preterm and Low Birth-Weight Infants Using Continuous Quality-Improvement Techniques) program. IMPLICIT improves birth outcomes while promoting the health of women, children, and families. The IMPLICIT Interconception Care Model is a cutting-edge model that embeds care for moms who might become pregnant again into well-child visits. It is a preventive care model that incorporates assessments and referrals.

The MDH Children and Youth with Special Health Needs Section is supporting clinic sites in implementing the IMPLICIT model. Within this framework, clinic sites screen, coach, and refer mothers for smoking, depression, family planning, and/or folic acid.
