Childhood Immunization Coverage Over Time
Minnesota rates over time by single antigen and series from the National Immunization Survey (NIS) and the Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC). The NIS is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) survey and MIIC is an immunization information system operated by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

- Estimates for the 2020 birth year are considered preliminary and will be finalized after the data for the survey year 2023 are available.
- Estimates are reported by birth year, so children born in 2020 were turning 24 months and recommended to receive routine vaccinations in 2022.
DTaP
Percent of children with 4 or more doses of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine (4+ DTaP) by age 24 months.
According to the NIS, DTaP coverage in Minnesota is higher than the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, DTaP coverage rates declined.
Polio
Percent of children with 3 or more doses of poliovirus vaccine (3+ Polio) by age 24 months.
According to the NIS, polio coverage in Minnesota is similar to the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, polio coverage rates declined.
MMR
Percent of children with 1 or more doses of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (1+ MMR) by age 24 months.
According to the NIS, MMR coverage in Minnesota is similar to the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, MMR coverage rates declined.
Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b)
MIIC: Percent of children with complete Hib (2+, 3+, or 4+ doses of Hib vaccine, depending on product type received and age at first dose) by age 24 months.
NIS: Percent of children with full series Hib (3+ or 4+ doses of Hib vaccine, depending on product type received) by age 24 months.
According to the NIS, Hib coverage in Minnesota is similar the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, Hib coverage rates declined.
Hepatitis B
Percent of children with 3 or more doses of hepatitis B vaccine by age 24 months.
According to the NIS, Hep B coverage in Minnesota is similar to the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, Hep B coverage rates remained consistent.
Hepatitis B Birth Dose
Percent of children with 1 or more doses of hepatitis B vaccine administered between birth and age 3 days.
According to the NIS, Hep B birth dose coverage in Minnesota is similar to the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, Hep B birth dose coverage is rising.
Varicella (chickenpox)
MIIC: Percent of children with 1 or more doses of varicella vaccine, adjusted for history of disease by age 24 months.
NIS: Percent of children with 1 or more doses of varicella vaccine, unadjusted for history of disease by age 24 months.
According to the NIS, varicella coverage in Minnesota is similar to the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, varicella coverage rates remained consistent.
PCV (pneumococcal conjugate vaccine)
MIIC: Percent of children with complete PCV (2+, 3+, or 4+ doses of PCV vaccine, depending on age at first dose) by age 24 months.
NIS: Percent of children with 4 or more doses of PCV (4+ PCV) by age 24 months.
According to the NIS, PCV coverage in Minnesota is similar to the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, PCV coverage rates remained consistent.
Series
MIIC: Percent of children with 4+ DTaP, 3+ polio, 1+ MMR, complete Hib, 3+ hep B, 1+ varicella (adjusted), and complete PCV by age 24 months.
NIS: Percent of children with 4+ DTaP, 3+ polio, 1+ MMR, full series Hib, 3+ hep B, 1+ varicella (unadjusted), and 4+ PCV by age 24 months.
According to the NIS, vaccine series coverage in Minnesota is similar to the national average and remained consistent. According to MIIC, vaccine series coverage rates remained consistent.
Rotavirus
Percent of children with complete rotavirus (2+ or 3+ doses of rotavirus vaccine, depending on product type received) by age 8 months.

Hepatitis A
Percent of children with 2 or more doses of hepatitis A vaccine (2+ Hep A) by age 35 months.
