Health Care Workforce Advisory Council

Background

The Minnesota Legislature, in 2024 session laws, Chapter 127, Article 66, Section 22, directed the Minnesota Department of Health to recommend legislative language to create a Health Care Workforce Advisory Council in consultation with the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State HealthForce Center of Excellence.

MDH met with representatives from the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State HealthForce Center of Excellence to discuss options for the scope, purpose, membership and vision for this council. The planners engaged workforce stakeholders and solicited feedback on the proposed legislative language for the council.  In addition, the planners also consulted with other states with similar workforce councils and with national experts on the duties and composition of an effective workforce council. 

MDH’s final report, Recommendations for the Minnesota Health Care Workforce Advisory Council (PDF) was sent to the legislature on January 28, 2025.
