Melissa (Mel) Gresczyk
Melissa Gresczyk was appointed assistant commissioner for the department’s Health Operations Bureau in August 2023, by Commissioner Brooke Cunningham. She will oversee the operational functions of Human Resources, Finance, Facilities Management, Data Strategy and Interoperability, MNIT Health, Agency Projects and Planning, Workforce Development, and Emergency Preparedness and Response.
Professional background
Gresczyk joined MDH in April of 2022 as the Human Resources director and provided strategic leadership, organizing, aligning and building up teams designed to support employees, managers, and supervisors in the new, post-COVID era. With a focus on innovation, creativity, and change management, she strategically transformed processes in HR management, staffing, recruitment, performance management, training, and labor relations to develop strong business partnerships and support the MDH mission. In addition, she created a customer-focused HR services team, creating new channels to keep employees informed and engaged.
Prior to joining MDH, Gresczyk had 22 years of experience at the Department of Human Services where she was the HR director for the Direct Care and Treatment Division. She was responsible for strategic leadership initiatives, oversight of recruitment and staffing, classification and compensation, performance management and labor relations, and all facets of HR operations.
Education
Gresczyk attended Western Governors University and has a B.S. in business administration with a focus on human resources.
