About the HAI Prevention Collaboratives

The MN HAI Prevention Advisory Group identified two HAI prevention collaboratives for Minnesota hospitals to focus on for 2010-2011: surgical site infection (SSI) and Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). The prevention materials for the collaboratives were developed using the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) “Call to Action” framework, and were designed to make measurable progress toward the National Prevention Targets outlined in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) “Action Plan to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections.”

Work groups made up of infection preventionists, infectious disease physicians, and other experts, were created for each HAI collaborative. The work groups reviewed published literature and guidelines to determine evidence-based practices.

Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI)

  • Eight Minnesota hospitals participated in a one-year pilot to develop the Safe from CDI Roadmap/Toolkit to promote CDI prevention in acute care hospitals.

Surgical Site Infection (SSI)

  • Nine Minnesota hospitals volunteered to participate in a one-year pilot to develop the Safe CUTS Roadmap/Toolkit to promote SSI prevention in acute care hospitals.
