What the Office of Health Facility Complaints Can Investigate
We investigate:
- Allegations of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation, as defined in the Minnesota Vulnerable Adults Act (Minnesota Statues 626. 557), in any health care facility licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). These include:
- nursing homes
- assisted living facilities
- boarding care homes
- supervised living facilities
- hospitals
- home health providers
- Complaints relates to resident rights including privacy, being treated with respect, and the discharge and termination of services rights.
- Complaints or reports relating to quality of care and compliance with licensing standards.
- Note: for federally-certified providers, including hospitals, nursing homes, Medicare certified home health agencies, and intermediate care facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID), the complaints will be evaluated first under the federal regulations which apply to the provider type.
We are not able to investigate:
- Billing or insurance concerns
- Medical clinics
- Personal care assistants who do not work for a home care agency.
