2022 Year in Review
Medical Cannabis Program
The information below provides highlights of Office of Medical Cannabis accomplishments in 2022.
New qualifying medical conditions approved
The Minnesota Department of Health approved irritable bowel syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder as new qualifying medical conditions for participation in Minnesota’s Medical Cannabis Program. The new qualifying conditions will take effect Aug. 1, 2023.
The medical conditions were approved in 2022 after MDH conducted the annual petition and comment process to solicit public input on potential qualifying medical conditions and delivery methods for medicine.
New medical cannabis options launch
Available forms of medical cannabis also expanded in 2022. Dried flower, which was approved by the Minnesota Legislature in 2021, became available for registered patients 21 and older effective March 1, 2022.
Patients also became eligible to buy gummies/chews at the state’s Medical Cannabis Dispensaries effective Aug. 1, 2022. That form of medicine was approved by MDH in 2021 during the annual petition and public comment process.
