Perinatal Health Data Dashboard Homepage
Every year in Minnesota, residents have about:
- 61,000 live births
- 300 infant deaths
- 300 fetal deaths
The health of babies and mothers/birthing parents during pregnancy and at delivery is important as both populations can experience outcomes that vary in severity.
The Perinatal Health Dashboard was created to focus on infant or maternal outcomes or care delivery. For each topic, there is an overview page with key data highlighted as well as an interactive page where users can look at the outcomes using additional demographic and program use factors.
The dashboard is interactive. Users can select options to view birth data in different ways. Use the cursor to hover over data points on the charts to see additional information and notes on how to interpret the data. Read About the Data to learn more about the source and data definitions.
Interactive dashboards
The indexes below list the available topics showing all live births by different demographics and program use.
Section 1: Resident live births by region, maternal characteristics, and program use
This interactive dashboard has many data visualization options to display live births. The first section of the dashboard allows data to be viewed by different Minnesota regions.
Map: By Minnesota county
The map shows the number of live births by Minnesota county. Use the two drop-down options above the map to change the data to look at a specific birth year(s) and Minnesota region.
Line chart: By other characteristics
The line chart shows the percent of live births to mothers/birthing parents by a variety of selected characteristics. Use the drop-down options above the line chart to select a birth year(s) and Minnesota region. Use the “select a field to display in the line chart” drop-down to look at further breakdowns of the data.
Bar charts: By other characteristics
The bar charts show the same additional characteristics data shown on the line chart. Use the drop-down options to select a specific birth year(s) and Minnesota region. These selections will apply to all bar charts in this section.
Section 2: Resident live births by maternal race/ethnicity and foreign-born status
This section of the interactive dashboard shows data by the race/ethnicity and foreign-born status of the mother/birthing parent. These breakout options were selected because data often differs by race/ethnicity. Within race/ethnicity groups there can be differences between those who were born in the United States (U.S.-born) compared to those who were born outside of the U.S. (foreign-born).
Bar chart: Race/ethnicity and foreign-born status
Use the drop-downs above the chart to select a birth year(s). The checkboxes above the bar chart can be checked and unchecked to show race/ethnicity groups and foreign-born statuses of the mother/birthing parent. Selections will apply to this bar chart only.
Symbol charts: Race/ethnicity and foreign-born status
The remaining charts show data by the race/ethnicity and foreign-born status of the mother/birthing parent and other maternal factors. The birth year drop-down and checkboxes for the race/ethnicity groups and foreign-born statuses of the mother/birthing parent below apply to the remaining charts.
