Minnesota Burn Surge
Burn care resources are limited and highly specialized. During a mass casualty incident with large numbers of burn patients, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) recognizes additional resources may be needed to expand the ability to provide burn care stabilization.

Statewide capacity is reached by partnering with our Burn Centers, eight Regional Health Care Coalitions, 13 hospitals serving as Burn Surge Facilities and our national partners through American Burn Association Midwest Region and Department of Health and Human Services Region V Great Lakes Healthcare Partnership.
Burn surge educational materials have been developed and intended for healthcare providers and local, regional and state mass casualty burn surge incident responders.

Burn Surge Facility Response Resources
These materials were developed by the Minnesota State Burn Centers—Hennepin County Medical Center and Regions Hospital—in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Health to be used during a burn surge response. They are recommendations for patients being treated for burns at a Burn Surge Facility. It is best practice for Burn Surge Facilities to familiarize their staff with these materials prior to an incident occurring.
