About the Healthy Brain Initiative

Our mission

To reduce the risk of dementia as Minnesotans age by supporting a healthy lifestyle.

Serving Minnesota

MDH works by:

  • Aligning statewide efforts and building coordinated systems and partnerships to support community-led and culturally responsive strategies to reduce risk factors for Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
  • Improving community-clinical linkages to increase early detection and diagnoses.
  • Supporting the health and well-being of people living with dementia and their caregivers.
  • Ensuring Minnesotans at risk for or living with dementia and their caregivers have equitable access to opportunities and resources to support their well-being and quality of life.

Minnesota Healthy Brain Partnership

We convene the Minnesota Healthy Brain Partnership (MHBP), a voluntary committee of health professionals and community members who meet quarterly to plan and implement coordinated action to improve dementia risk reduction, early detection, and caregiver health and wellbeing.

Between January 2022 and March 2023, the Healthy Brain Partnership met to develop the Minnesota Dementia Strategic Plan (PDF).

Partners

The Healthy Brain Initiative works with health care systems, local public health, businesses, nonprofit organizations, communities, and other partners from across the state to improve outcomes and quality of life for people in Minnesota experiencing dementia.

Funding

Minnesota receives CDC funding that supports the Building Our Largest Dementia (BOLD) Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act, Public Law 115-406, for Public Health Programs to Address Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias.
