- Eastern equine encephalitis is an arboviral disease of humans and horses. In 2001, the virus was detected in Minnesota for the first time in recent history.
- An outbreak of eastern equine encephalitis occurred, which included 75 equine cases in Wisconsin, 3 equine cases in Minnesota and 1 equine case in Iowa. During this outbreak, no human cases occurred.
