Invasive bacterial diseases including group B streptococcus, group A streptococcus, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, and Streptococcus pneumoniae isolated from normally sterile sites are reportable in Minnesota residents. Neonatal sepsis is also reportable in Minnesota, including any bacteria, except coagulase-negative Staphylococcus, isolated from a sterile site in infants less than 7 days of age. There is ongoing surveillance for invasive Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Ramsey and Hennepin County residents from selected sites.
