Real Estate Professionals as Well Partners
Real estate professionals are important partners in helping ensure that people who get their drinking water from a private well have safe water. Disclosing the location, number, and status of wells at property transfer is required by law and is an important step to protect clients’ health. However, there is more real estate professionals can do to further support their clients. They can gather well information, encourage well inspection and testing, get to know local licensed well contractors, alert clients to local groundwater concerns, and share educational materials about private wells.
Be a Well Savvy Real Estate Professional course
The purpose of the training is to make real estate professionals “well-savvy”. A well-savvy realtor can guide their clients through the legal requirements for private wells during property transfer, find necessary well records, navigate potential well-related issues clients may encounter, and inform clients on what they need to do to ensure safe drinking water. This course offers two hours of real estate license continuing education credits.

Buying and Selling a Home with a Private Well brochure available for order
The Buying or Selling a Home with a Private Well brochure was created based on feedback received via the Be a Well Savvy Real Estate Professional course. It was made for real estate professionals and local government employees working with clients who may be new to a home with a private well. The brochure provides key information on what to look for, questions to ask, legal requirements, and resources for both groups so that they know what is expected at property transfer.
