Communities of Practice and Learning Communities for Local Public Health
Facilitated by the MDH Center for Public Health Practice
Accreditation Learning Community: Minnesota's local public health departments organize and facilitate this learning community. For more information or to get connected, please contact the MDH Center for Public Health Practice.
CHA/CHIP Community of Practice: Join the MDH CHA-CHIP community of practice to build capacity around conducting, developing, and implementing a community health assessment (CHA) and community health improvement plan (CHIP).
Communications Community of Practice: The Communications Community of Practice is for local public health who are doing communications work. It’s a space to share ideas, learn together, deepen partnerships, and give communications support across our public health system.
Foundational Public Health Responsibilities (FPHR) Community of Practice: This community of practice provides a space for local public health departments to share and learn about activities related to foundational public health responsibilities.
Health Equity Community of Practice: An informal space for state and local public health folks to share, dig into, and learn about Health Equity and Community Partnerships, as they show up in the Foundational Public Health Responsibilities framework. This Community of Practice is a drop-in space each month with different topics each month. If you'd like to attend, please email Linda Kopecky at linda.kopecky@state.mn.us.
NEW! Regional/Statewide Data Practice Groups: This community of practice focuses on building local and Tribal public health data capacity, knowledge, and skills through shared learning opportunities and peer support. It also provides a space for data updates and information sharing across the public health data system. Local and Tribal public health data staff and leadership are invited to attend as well as MDH data stewards that work with local public health or have information to share with them. Meetings are virtual and meeting regionally (North, Central, and South) two times per year and statewide (All Regions + Metro Public Health Analyst Network) two times per year. Please email gabby.cahow@state.mn.us to get connected.
Health Equity Learning Community background and resources: The MDH Health Equity Learning Community (2017-2018) helped teams from Minnesota public health departments to integrate health equity practices into their work. This learning community isn't currently meeting, but read on to learn about how to replicate this approach at your own agency.
