Mental Health Awareness Month Toolkit 2025

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. While mental health is important to address year-round, Mental Health Awareness Month provides a dedicated time for people, organizations, and communities to join their voices to broadcast the message that mental health matters.

The toolkit has ideas, resources, and messages to share to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention.

Download the toolkit:

  • Mental Health Awareness Month Toolkit (PDF)
  • Mental Health Awareness Month Toolkit (Word)

The toolkit includes key messages, social media content, and shareable graphics. The toolkit has been designed for individuals, organizations, and communities. The toolkit is a only starting point! We suggest people using this toolkit tailor the content and use images that best engage with their communities.

Key Themes

Below are key messages that can be used for each week:

  • Week 1: Explore your mental health
  • Week 2: Nurture your mental wellbeing
  • Week 3: Find mental health support in tough times
  • Week 4: Embrace your mental health journey

Tips to join in on Mental Health Awareness Month

  • Use the key messages to develop content for emails, newsletters or to share with those you keep in touch with, including friends, work colleagues, and other groups that you are engaged with.
  • Use the key messages to bring this information into relationships. This can be within conversations, meetings, community events, etc.
  • Share a social media posts each week. These can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or an employee intranet site to name a few. Add #YouMatterMN to your posts so others can learn from what you are doing.
  • Use the graphics created at Mental Health Awareness Month Shareables.
  • Safe Messaging Around Mental Health and Suicide (PDF) provides guidance on how to safely talk about mental health and suicide.

The toolkit is a starting point, and it is suggested that individuals, organizations, and communities tailor the message for their communities and add their own images and graphics to boost the visibility and engagement.

We want to hear from you

We'd love to hear about your experience with this toolkit. Please fill out the mental health awareness month feedback survey and tell us what you think. Your feedback will help us shape future toolkits.
