Long COVID
A Post-Viral Infection-Associated Chronic Condition
Infection-associated chronic conditions (IACCs) are long-term symptoms triggered by an acute viral, bacterial, or parasitic infection. Chronic symptoms can include extreme fatigue, cognitive impairment (brain fog), post-exertional malaise, pain, and immune dysfunction. These symptoms can be severe enough to interfere with daily life or cause new disability.
The IACCs that occur after a COVID-19 infection are most commonly known as long COVID, but may also be called post-COVID conditions, long-haul COVID, chronic COVID, or post-acute sequelae of COVID-19.
