Statutes related to the Local Public Health Act

In addition to the Local Public Health Act, there are a number of other state statutes which impact the administration and governance of public health in Minnesota.

Chapter 144. Department of Health

This describes the general authority of the Commissioner of Health as the state's chief public health official, explaining that the Commissioner is, "responsible for the development and maintenance of an organized system of programs and services for protecting, maintaining, and improving the health of the citizens" (§ 144.05, subd. 1).

Chapter 402. County human services boards

This has important implications for the administration and governance of local public health in Minnesota in that a human services board legally organized under this statute may assign to it the powers and duties of a community health board (as outlined under Minn. Stat. § 145A). Human service boards under this statute are eligible for funding from the commissioner if all requirements of Minn. Stat. § 145A.03 and § 145A.04 are met.

Administrative Rules 4736.0110. Personnel standards
