Public Health Nurse Orientation and Resource Guide

MDH has retired the Public Health Nurse Orientation and Resource Guide.

For help orienting new public health nurses in your agency, refer to the following resources:

  • Who is my public health system consultant?
Public health system consultants, members of the MDH Center for Public Health Practice, offer consultation and technical assistance in a defined geographic area for the purpose of promoting and maintaining a strong public health infrastructure.
  • PHN residency for new graduates
This residency is a joint venture between a PHN resident and a preceptor assigned to facilitate the resident's transition to practice. A flexible, one-year calendar provides monthly activities to be completed by the preceptor, the resident, and agency personnel providing orientation.
