Indoor Ice Arenas
All indoor ice arenas in the state of Minnesota are required to be certified by MDH and keep records, regardless of the type of ice maintenance equipment in use. Those arenas that use combustion powered resurfacers, edgers, or other equipment also must monitor carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide concentrations in the air on a routine basis. If levels of CO or NO2 exceed the definition of acceptable air quality, the staff needs to take corrective actions to lower contaminant levels.
Arena staff are required to make air quality records available to the public upon request. Each arena in the state is required to post a copy of their MDH certification in a location visible to the public.
