Naloxone Administration in School Settings
School Toolkit

The School Toolkit includes information and recommendations for school policy and emergency procedure development, role of medical provider for standing orders/protocols and prescription, resources for obtaining naloxone medication, resources for education and training and recovery / referral resources to meet the needs of those are at risk or who have experienced an overdose.

  • Opioid Overview

    Minnesota opioid data, Minnesota state statues and definitions pertaining to opiate antagonist administration in schools.

  • Developing a School Naloxone Policy

    Directions for accessing the Minnesota School Board Association's (MSBA) sample policy language for the administration of naloxone in schools.

  • Developing a School Emergency Response Procedure

    Considerations for developing an opioid overdose school emergency response procedure, including a Naloxone Emergency Response Procedure template. Best practices and recommendations for documentation of and communication about an opioid overdose, handling and disposing of confiscated drugs/paraphernalia, and conducting an after incident review.
