The Health Risk Assessment Unit within the Division of Environmental Health at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) develops and establishes rules for contaminants in groundwater. MDH goes through a complex process to develop Health Risk Limits for groundwater contaminants that includes input from scientific experts, risk managers and the public in developing values.
Health Risk Values for contaminants in air were adopted into rule in 2002.
Several other MDH environmental health programs promulgate rules, such as asbestos, lead, and well management. To search for other state statutes and rules, see Minnesota Law.
MDH issues additional guidance on ambient air and groundwater contaminants that are not promulgated into rules. See Health-Based Rules and Guidance for Air and Guidance Values and Standards for Contaminants in Drinking Water.
