STI Statistics - 2025
25,523 STI cases were reported to MDH in 2025 compared to 28,312 cases in 2024 – a 9% decrease.
- Chlamydia remained the number one reported STI in the state with 18,179 cases reported, a 8% decrease compared to 2024.
- 60% of the cases occurred in teens and young adults ages 15 to 24.
- One in three cases occurred in Greater Minnesota, with at least one case reported in every county in Minnesota.
- Gonorrhea remained the second most reported STI in Minnesota, with 5,960 cases reported in 2025, a 16% decrease compared to 2024.
- Syphilis cases decreased 6% from 2024 with 1,384 cases in 2025.
- While new infections continued to be centered within the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the presence of syphilis among females continues to be of concern.
- Congenital syphilis cases increased 3% in 2025 with 30 cases reported.
